REE’s are a rare group of elements which are essential in a modern technological society and are used in electronics, computers, cell phones, military applications and in medical technology. Only one REE mine exist in the United States and Kentucky and Illinois have some rocks that may have potential for economic accumulations of these elements. These elements occur in igneous rocks and are associated with fluorite.
